Lessons From A Batch Of Tamales

horses blacksmith A post on family roots includes a blacksmith.

My great, great grandfather on my dad's side was a blacksmith. That side of the family is very much rooted in the Old West Cowboy history. It's evident that it still lives on strongly whenever we gather for Easter at a remote ranch for several days of camping and celebrating. While we don't own horses any longer, something stirs in our blood when we're out in the monte.

Professional Bull Riding

horse houston rodeo bull riding Turns out a family friend rides bulls at the Houston Rodeo.

My son’s best friend since middle school turned out to be a professional bull rider. You’d have never thunk it, because Corey was an introvert when he was a kid. But let me tell you, when I saw him the first time, at the Houston Rodeo, riding that bull as if he were a part of the animal, I knew for certain that Corey would go far.

Sweet 'n' Hot

horse bbq sign Some beef in honor of the cowboys.

In Texas, cattle reign. So, Texas BBQ showcases beef in honor of its cowboy history. Barbecue-beef brisket and short ribs abound. It’s been many years since I lived in Texas, so I don’t recall the specific venues where I first gave in to the siren call of tender beef in peppery sauces, but I do recall the delight. And it forever changed me. Since then, I have tirelessly ventured far and wide in my quest for BBQ and it has brought me from the bovine to the porcine.

Review: Horsez

horses mares head Good write-up on the Horsez game here.
I recently got a copy of the new Horsez game for the PC (Windows XP). The plan was to play it and write a review for others who might be interested. I’ve only played for a couple hours, but wanted to share a preview of the experience so far in case it’s on your holiday wish list.

Seven Seconds

horse houston rodeo rider From a great post on rodeos.

With that said, we used to always go to the Houston Rodeo! The entertainers were amazing including Garth Brooks, Tim McGraw, Alabama, and C&C Music Factory! Plus, the Houston Rodeo also had a great lifestock show.

He Was Short ... And In A Wifebeater

horse cowboy hat tim mcgraw A story about Tim McGraw.

And when she started relaying her tale of a moment with a celebrity, my initial thought was he was wearing a wifebeater and a cowboy hat when I met him in a professional capacity several years ago which gave me the wiggums. Years later, I found this photo that validates my initial assumption. He looked rather bright and showy to me but what do I know? I mean I admit I know nothing about fashion and prefer a much more eclectic style composed from yard sale and thrift store finds. I even wear Crocs in the snow.

Smells Like Horse

horse show sonoma Horses everywhere, but who's at the horse show?

So now I'm stuck. My cars smell like horse. At times my house smells like horse. My wife and daughters hair smells like horse. Horse everywhere. It's obviously not a guy thing. Do you see guys at horse shows? Nope. Just little girls on horses and their moms who would like to be little girls on horses.
