Golden Rules of Horse Racing Handicapping

horse racing handicap If you want to learn about horse racing and handicapping, here's a good place to start.

This is the second in my series of Golden Rules of Horse racing Handicapping. I realize that each person has to make their own rules for how they will handicap horse races, but I am sharing what I have learned after many years of experience and you may be able to pick some gems from what I have learned. Obviously, the old saying, rules are meant to be broken does apply. But before you start breaking rules, it is a good idea to learn them and why they are important and also the price for breaking them at the wrong time.

Well a basic understanding of handicapping is quite important for would be punters, as the vast majority of a day's racing is made up by such races.

Horse racing has been around, in one form or another, almost from the time horses were first domesticated in 4,500 B.C. Modern racing was started in England as an indirect result of the Crusades, which sparked the importation of swift Arab horses into England. Beyond making horse racing rules more modern and uniform, the Jockey Club also served a function to promote the sport and to settle disputes.

Rules are meant to be broken and one person's rules may not mean much to you. But after years of handicapping and being around horseracing, I have come up with some basic rules that have made a big difference in my ability to show a profit at the track, albeit a slim one at times. There are no get rich quick schemes in these rules, just some basic things that have stood the test of time.

No doubt about it, that was a very sad moment. But I have been involved in racing and farming for many years and it is part of life. Wild horses also suffer the same kind of injuries and horses can even hurt themselves in the pasture when no one is around.
