Golden Rules of Horse Racing Handicapping

If you want to learn about horse racing and handicapping, here's a good place to start.

This is the second in my series of Golden Rules of Horse racing Handicapping. I realize that each person has to make their own rules for how they will handicap horse races, but I am sharing what I have learned after many years of experience and you may be able to pick some gems from what I have learned. Obviously, the old saying, rules are meant to be broken does apply. But before you start breaking rules, it is a good idea to learn them and why they are important and also the price for breaking them at the wrong time.

A write up on the Akhal Teke horse breed.

The Akhal Teke breed of horses have survived hundreds of years, mainly thanks to the efforts of their owners, i.e. the warlike Turkmen tribe called Teke, who used the horses during wars waged with their neighbours. The Tekes avoided cross-breeding them with other horses in order to keep the marvellous features of the breed.

Hauling insulation in the horse trailer.

On the way we got to stop at the dentist (good news though, no big dental work required!), and since it was a beautiful day (though chilly) we had a nice time on the road. Here he is - with the trailer mostly loaded - Pretty creative use of a horse trailer, don’cha think!

The Kentucky Derby may be more important than the SuperBowl in the South.

While many across the nation had huge tailgate parties for Super Bowl Sunday, those of us in the southern region of the US might also be planning Kentucky Derby parties where we’ll have the aforementioned foods as well as tall, cold drinks, appetizers, and just general fun finger foods. In fact, there are probably some who are already sending out Kentucky Derby party invitations, listing the activities and the foods that will be served!

Do I Go To rodeoHOUSTON?

Is there any question about going to rodeoHOUSTON?

My sister has invited me to the upcoming rodeoHOUSTON in March next year. She lives in Tennessee and proposes that we take a road trip down to Texas. She is still waiting for my confirmation before getting hold of a couple of Houston Rodeo concert tickets. She told me to hurry as she has to book them early. These tickets go like hot cakes and once sold out, it will be very difficult to get hold of any and we may have to wait for 2009. That is a long way off. Too long.

The sad story of Barbaro's race at the Preakness.

This extraordinary article in Vanity Fair recounts Barbaro’s story from the inside — through the eyes of the owners, trainers, doctors and jockeys who helped hone him into a Kentucky Derby champion, and then tried to save his life after his devastating injury at the Preakness.

Estes Park: A Resort With An Inferiority Complex

With great horse shows, how hard could it be to brand Estes Park?

I’d show people enjoying Indian crafts, fishing, hiking, horseback riding, snow-shoeing, golfing. I’d do views from the aerial tramway.
